Poison victim

Imphal, February 21 2011:
A young housewife died from alleged consumption of poison at Kiyamgei Maning Leikai under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district.
However, her maternal family members suspected foul play over the death.
According to sources, 20-year old Irom Ongbi Tombisana Devi w/o Herojit was admitted to RIMS last night after consumming poison but she passed away at around 10.15 pm.
After attending the Mapam Chakkouba of her brother yesterday, Tombisana had returned home and prepared the supper of the family.
When her husband came for the supper, she reportedly said she was not feeling well.
Suspicious of the conduct of his wife, Herojit walked closer to take a sniff and came to know that she had consumed poison.
An empty can of pesticide was also found nearby.
Meanwhile, crying foul over the death, a group of women of the maternal family of Tombisana today attacked Herojit at the mortuary of JNIMS where the body of Tombisana had been transferred for post-mortem on account of Kiyamgei falling under the jurisdiction of JNIMS.
Herojit was holding his son and standing near the mortuary when the agitated women attacked him after taking the child from him.
Herojit suffered head injuries in the attack.
Subsequently, Herojit has been taken into custody by the police.
Suspecting foul cry in death, the maternal family members claimed that there were many injuries and bruises on the body of Tombisana.
The post-mortem of the body is yet to be conducted.
