Imphal, February 21 2011:
Teachers in different colleges today demonstrated to demand implementation of revised UGC pay scheme.
At DM College campus, the protest demonstration was held under the aegis of Teachers' Forum DMC, Science, Commerce and Arts.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration held inside the college campus, president of the Forum Dr Th Ibohanbi pointed out the pay scale prescribed by UGC for teachers in colleges is being revised from time to time since January 2006 to encourage the teachers and promote higher education.
While the UGC pay scale has been implemented in 27 States of the country, the same is yet to be implemented in Manipur despite a Cabinet decision on November 4, 2010 for its implementation.
Ibohanbi warned that they may be constrained to launch various intense agitations including cease work strike from February 28 if the Government does not consider their demand.
Similar protest demonstrations were also held at other colleges of the State where placards with slogans like 'Follow National Education Rules', 'Implement revised UGC pay scale', 'Save higher education', etc were displayed.
