In connection with its 8th Unity Day observance, All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has extended financial assistance to the family members of Laitonjam Rajkumar and Ksh Romeo who were killed in police firing during the public uprising of June 18, 2001 as well as to Subita whose leg had been amputated after being hit by a bullet in the same incident.
AMUCO advisor Th Iboyaima handed over to Rs 5000 each to 12 years old Golson surviving son of Laitonjam Rajkumar of Uripok Khoisnam Leikai, 10 year old Goldie, surviving daughter of Ksh Romio of Singjamei Wangma Taba Kshetri Leikai and Subita during a simple function held at the office of AMUCO.
Golson is today studying in class VII while Goldie is in class IV.
Phalguni, wife of Rajkumar and Shanti, wife of Romio were also present at the occasion.
Both of them said that although such financial assistances are great help to meet the needs of their families, it is not just the money but the public remembrance of the June 18 martyrs that give them the courage to go on with their lives.
AMUCO advisor Th Iboyaima noted that it is the duty of all of us to remember the sacrifice of the June 18 martyrs.
AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng said extending financial assistance of Rs 5000 each to the family members of two martyrs and Subita would not be the last from the side of AMUCO in looking after the needs of the family members of the June 18 Uprising victims.
However, AMUCO is short of fund in this regard, he said, while appealing to other people to come out and help the family members of all the martyrs as well.
