With a view to check the influx of illegal immigrants and also streamline the identity of non-locals residing in the Nagaland capital, the Angami Students Union (ASU) has resumed its yearly month long non-local verification drive.
More than 500 non-local residents of Kohima engaged in various forms government jobs, business and other trades have verified their Inner Line Permit (ILP) issued by the district administration during the first two days.
The drive began from Monday.
ASU president Voto Neikha said that the drive is being conducted to cross check whether the ILP issues are genuine and the expiry dates.
Adding that if any anomalies is detected the matter will be reported to the Government for further course of action or precautionary measures.
He also said that the crisis of illegal immigrants posses a serious threat to the identity and culture of Nagas while expressing fear that the whole demographic course will drastically take paradigm shift very soon.
Voto said that the Nagas are also responsible for the act of patronizing, protecting and harbouring the illegal migrants in their undesirable and clandestine activities in exchange of monetary gain.
It has credited the right thinking citizens for cooperation and appealed all frontal organizations, hohos and student bodies to extend their valuable cooperation in order to make the verification drive a success.
