Imphal, June 16 2009:
The sixth session of the ninth Manipur Legislative Assembly will begin on July 3.This was decided by the State Cabinet during its meeting held this afternoon.
The forthcoming Assembly session will facilitate the passing of full budgets as the Vote on Accounts budgets were already passed in the previous session.
As such, around 20 sittings are expected in the forthcoming session.
However, the bills that are to be tabled by the government in the Assembly would be known after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, according to a source.
The state Cabinet today has also given its approval for implementation of Rs 300 Crore project on Naga River.
Under the project, the stretch of Naga Stream from Khoyathong to the base of Maharani Bridge will be covered with RCC apart from constructing retaining wall along the two corners of the stream.
Footpaths will be made at the two sides and six passable bridges on it to enable free movement on foot, it said.
The RCC cover will also be made parking space for two-wheelers, and light vehicles at the same time.
Public toilet and crematorium will also be constructed near it for the people of the area.
However, construction of market sheds, which was projected earlier, did not get the approval of the Cabinet today, the source revealed.
The Naga Stream project has been declared as Scheme Area by the PDA with permission from the government since 1987 which was once amended in 2001.But viewing that the amendment of the Scheme Area will not be productive, the state Cabinet today decided to incorporate the provisions of the Scheme Area declaration of 1987, it added.
The source further said that the project is estimated to cost Rs 300 crore including Rs 100 Crore available now with the MAHUD.
The layering of drainage with RCC, construction of toilets, etc will be implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JNURM).
The Cabinet further decided for the authorisation of the signature of the SC of the Technical Section of the Public Works Department in matter relating to contract works and to be countersigned by the Chief Engineer.
The Cabinet has also given its approval for the conduct of DPC for the regularisation of 46 contract basis employees of the Ecological and Environment Wing under the Forest Department, it added.
The Cabinet was also said to have discussed at length over the non-finalisation of the location for the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU).
It decided to seek the view and opinion of the Hill Areas Committee in this regard, according to the source.
