Imphal, June 16 2009:
Expressing great concern over the government decision to deploy police commandos and personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in the hill districts of Senapati and Ukhrul in Manipur, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) asserted it doubts the motive of the government of Manipur in its decision to deploy the security forces in the hill districts of the state.
The ANSAM on Tuesday asserted it does not "see any positive intention of the government" as there is a ceasefire between the government of India and the NSCN and a suspension of operation (SoO) between the government of Manipur and Kuki armed groups operating in the state.
Further asserting there was no serious law and order problem in the hill districts of the state, the Naga students' body questioned the state government on what urgency the decision was taken for the deployment of police commandos and IRB personnel in the hill districts.
The ANSAM also drew the attention of the Hill Area Committee stating the situation is a matter of concern and interest of the hill people.
