Contending that the Assistant Commissioner (Disabilities) do not have special knowledge and practical experience regarding rehabilitation and rights of physically challenged persons, All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur (ATDUM) has drawn attention of the State Government on the need to appoint an officer to the post who has thorough knowledge of disabilities.
The union is also set to file a PIL before Gauhati High Court against the State Government for not appointing a full time Commissioner (Disabilities), informed a press release issued by ATDUM President Momo Tantanga.
Regarding the incompetency of the present Assistant Commissioner (Disabilities), Momo Tantanga said that he met the officer three times and talked over the rights and rehabilitation of disabilities.
However, the Assistant Commisioner lacks special knowledge on the matter, Momo alleged.
The President added that he sought information through RTI on application forms and OPD forms of obtaining Disability Certificate of 15 persons by submitting two separate applications on August 7 and 9 last.
However, the Assistant Commissioner (Disabilities) failed to provide relevant information within the stipulated 30 days, Momo added.
