A marathon for womenfolk which spreads message on Tuberculosis under the theme 'innovation� was held at Tamenglong district Hqs today.
It was jointly organised by District Tuberculosis Control Society, Tamenglong and 11 Assam Rifles.
KC Lokkho, Commandant of 5th MR flagged off the marathon.
In all, 150 participants took part in the marathon and Sharon Panmei of Dimthanlong Tamenglong Ward No III bagged first position.
Sharon walked away with a cash of Rs 5000 and certificates.
Tosinliu Khangchian of Tamenglong Ward X bagged second position and took away a sum of Rs 3000 and certificate and Ng Athonliu of Tamenglong Ward No IV won third position and took away a sum of Rs 2000 and certificates.
Tamenglong DC K Panmei handed over the prizes.
In the reception programme, K Panmei, 11 Assam Rifles Commandant Col PS Chhonkar, 5th MR Commandant KC Lokkho and State TB Officer Dr AK Khamba Singh graced the function as chief guest, President and guests of honour respectively.
In his speech as chief guest, K Panmei expressed thanks to District TB Control Society and 11 AR for organising the marathon which spread the message of once a dreadful disease.
He urged all to know more about TB and its prevention from today�s programme.
He also mentioned the works of 11 AR taken up in various the district.
In his speech as guest of honour, Dr AK Khamba Singh said that once dreadful disease is now 100 percent curable, 'spread this message to others when you go back from this function�, he said.
He said that four Microscopic Centre and another 69 DOTs centres in the district.
He also said that HIV/AIDS and TB are co-related adding that treatment in time will save the patients.
Dr Chambo Gonmei, District TB Officer also spoke in the occasion and welcome all the participants.
'The day is very important for everyone in the district, as it spreads the message of TB is curable�, he said.
Col PS Chhonkar urged all to spread the message that TB is curable.
