The Governor Gurbachan Jagat has inaugurated the 7th Manipur state Film Festival at the Manipur Film Development Corporation�s (MFDC) Theatre Complex at Palace Compound on September 11. In his address as the chief guest, Gurbachan Jagat announced presentation of the Governor�s Film Award to the best Manipuri digital film from the next edition of the festival.
While informing that the award would be sponsored by the Governor�s Secretariat, he mentioned that modalities for the award would be assessed by Secretary to the Governor.
Noting rapid stride in the artistic activity in Manipur ever since attaining Statehood and expressing confidence that cinema movement would strive in the State, he also applauded the festival organisers MFDC for its decision to present incentives to film/video makers.
While pointing out that impact of good films on the society could not be undermined, he also stressed on the need to facilitate production of films in tribal dialects.
"The tribes of Manipur also have rich cultural heritage and their folklore is replete with beautiful tales of romance and heroicism which will provide the materials for those desirous to make films/videos on the tribes concerned," the Governor opined.
Noted film-maker Aribam Syam Sharma graced the inaugural programme as the president.
