Imphal, March 07:
The KYKL has apprehended three youths alleged to be involved in serving extortion notes posing as its activists to brick manufacturing firms located in Imphal East district.
The three individuals who were rounded up on March 3 by a mobile team under the KYKL's assistant central administrative officer Shanta Achouba are identified as Sadokpam Bijen (18) s/o S Gouramani of Yairipok Nongbram, Ningthoujam Lanjoy (18) s/o N Pishak of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak and Laishram Binde Kumar s/o L Tomcha of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak.
Speaking to reporters at an Imphal East district location, Shanta Achouba informed that the mobile team had been on the trail of some individuals following specific information that they are extorting money from brick fields in the name of the armed organisation.
Stating that the three were hauled up from a Wairi brick field yesterday, Shanta further contended that involvement of Binde Kumar and Lanjoy in the extortion racket were found to be negligible as they were naive about S Bijen's activities.
All the three would be handed over to their respective family elders soon with a strong reminder not to get involved in such activities in future, Shanta said.
As per Bijen's disclosures on February 15 Wairi brick field proprietor Rupa and owner of a Waiton brick firm Megha were verbally asked to cough up Rs 25,000 each.
When payment dates slated for February 28 and March 1 went amiss he along with Lanjoy and Binde kumar approached the brick field owners to collect the sum the three were apprehended, Bijen added.
