A young girl of 17, who was severely assaulted with her throat being cut by a sharp weapon and probably left for dead was admitted to RIMS hospital today morning after morning joggers came across her body which was found abandoned at a drain at Langol Yumjaomanbi Ching.
At first the morning joggers thought the young girl was dead but on closer scrutiny they heard her laboured breathing and immediately rushed her to RIMS hospital.
The young girl is identified as Yumnam Babita daughter of Y Ibobi of Phumlou but presently staying at Langol Wangdei Leikai.
According to the young woman, she along with a woman named Kim, wife of one Shamu staying near the Lamphel Exchange went to watch a Shumang Leela staged at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai Bor Lampak yesterday evening.
Kim's mother-in-law also accompanied them.
After watching the Leela, Kim asked one her relatives, identified only as Vaiphei to drop Babita on a Kinetic Activa, recalled the injured girl.
However instead of driving towards her home, the man started proceeding towards the direction of Yumjaomanbi Ching.
When Babita protested, the man started to grope her, she said and added that she was kicked and punched.
The man also started to strangulate her, she said and added that thereafter she lost consciousness.
When she woke up this morning she found herself inside the hospital, said the young girl and added that she does not remember anything after she lost consciousness.
Not ruling out anything, doctors from the Forensic Dept today conducted test to verify whether the young girl was raped or not, said sources.
Other than the injury on the throat, there are bruises on the face of Babita.
Lamphel police have registered a case and picked up some suspects for interrogation.
