A combined team of Imphal East commandos and 32 Assam Rifles arrested an activist of the UNLF/MPA from Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi where a cordon and search operation was conducted yesterday afternoon.
the apprehended UG activist has been identified as Laitonjam Naobi alias Wangkheicha (23) s/o L Ranjit Singh of Wangkhei Hijam Leirak.
On his preliminary verification Naobi disclosed of joining the UNLF organisation in May 2003 through one Thoicha Singh of Jiribam, said a statement issued by Imphal East district SP L Kailun while adding that Naobi was trained at Churachandpur under the command of one Chaoren.
Naobi's Army number is said to be 1644 of UNLF/MPA.
In another case, Imphal West district commandos arrested a PREPAK activist identified as Thounaojam Boro alias Thonglen Singh (24) s/o th Jila Singh of Kwakeithel Hourokchambi Thiyam Leikai from Nganapithong at around 9.30 am today.
Boro is informed to be a corporal of the armed outfit, according to a statement of Imphal West SP Clay Khongsai.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles troopers have apprehended two RPF/PLA, one PREPAK and a UNLF cadre from different places apart from seizing one kilogram of heroin powder.
In separate statements issued by PRO IGAR (S), personnel of 21 AR arrested the two RPF/PLA cadres identified as Laishram Bobo Singh (260 s/o Mohendra Singh of Sekmajin and Laishram Chalamba Yuvan alias Pvt Yuvan Thaba (27) s/o L Mankiohao Singh of Waikhong Chingtong Leikai on March 3 from Kairak area.
Another team of the same unit also nabbed a PREPAK cadre identified as Moirangthem Ajit Kumar (21) s/o M Yaima of Moirang Khunou Mathang Sabal from Kakching area on March 4.The UNLF cadre identified as Shougrakpam Johnsan Singh (18) s/o S Noren Singh of Hiyanglam Laipangan Manak, Kakching was arrested by troopers of 34 AR from Wangjing on March 5.All the arrested persons have been handed over to police station concerned.
In a major haul of narcotics substance, troops of 24 Assam Rifles intercepted a white-colour Tata Sumo at Moreh Ward No 9 and seized one kg of heroin on March 5.The seized heroin is valued at Rs one crore (approx.) in the international market, informed a PRO IGAR (S) release adding that the heroin consignment, apprehended persons and the vehicle have been handed over to Superintendent, Custom Prevention Department, Moreh on the same day.
