At least three persons have been reported killed in different incidents during the five day yaoshang festival while others sustained injuries in the same period.
On March 6 afternoon, motorcycle borne festival revellers hit an elderly woman at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda area.
The woman identified as Salam Ebeni (70) of Sagolband Lairenjam Leirak succumbed to injuries at RIMS Hospital.
The victim was rammed and crushed by two motor cycles.
In the second motor mishap which took place yesterday evening at an area located between Yumnam Khunou and Oinam under Nambol police station a female holi (halangkar) participant failed to respond to treatment at Shija Hospital where she was rushed after being hit by a Maruti car.
The victim woman is identified as Khundrakpam Ongbi Sobita (45) of Keinou Thongthak.
a teenage girl was also killed in yaoshang-related mishap today when a GI pipe loaded truck crushed her at Moidangpok Mayai Leikai at around 6.30 am today.
The accident spot is located under the jurisdiction of Patsoi police station and the victim identified as one Ningombam Premabati (18) of Moidangpok Mayai Leikai.
Premabati along with some of her companions were reportedly collecting festival funds (donations) on the roadside when the mishap took place.
While infuriated locals smashed the windshield of the Tata truck a police team showed up soon after the incident and collected ropes strung across the road on the New Cachar road.
All the bodies have been handed over to respective family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue.
RIMS Hospital itself recorded about 50 cases of injury mostly related to motor accidents.
Meanwhile, one Ngaseppam Heramani (35) of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba sustained bullet wounds on the right forearm and abdomen areas after he was fired upon at near his gate on March 5 evening.
The assailant is informed to be one oinam Gojen (35) of uchiwa Turel Wangma.
The incident is speculated to have been a fallout of Heramani scornfully advising some children including his and Gojen's to return home when he (Heramani) found them playing on the street at around 8.30 pm.
