Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has set the record straight on 'the misleading report' on the fisticuffs between relatives of a patients and unarmed security personnel posted at the Casualty ward of the institution on March 2 at around 8.30 pm.
In a statement, media advisor RIMS said Mayanglambam Konbi of Malom Awang Leikai was brought to the ward at around 8.30 pm.
The security personnel asked the family members to accompany the patient for just two attendants as per the existing rules.
However, one person whipped out an ID card claiming that he was a police commando.
Once the patient was taken inside the ward by about six relatives, the doctors on duty told them to wait outside while the patient was being treated.
When the security personnel tried to escort them out one attendant grasped the shirt front of a personnel and bloodied his nose.
In self defence, the personnel retaliated and in the free for all scuffle, four RIMS personnel were injured, the statement said, adding that they are being treated for injuries including fracture in the hand.
The statement further said all these untoward incidents including the scuffle had taken place in the presence of five doctors on duty.
The security officer of the RIMS security service has lodged a complaint with the Lamphel police station naming the persons who had assaulted the RIMS personnel.
On receipt of the information, Director of RIMS Prof Fimate rushed to the casualty ward and he appealed to one and all to abide by the Hospital rules so as to enable the doctors to provide a better healthcare in the interest of the patients.
He also appealed to the people not to vitiate the conducive atmosphere of the RIMS wards, the statement said, adding that the security personnel were merely implementing the rules of the institute.
Fimate appointed member of MCI: Director of RIMS Prof L Fimate has been appointed as a member of the Medical Council of India.
He will be representing the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Manipur University in the Medical Council of India.
Meanwhile, Prof Fimate has been honoured with the Bharat Shiksha Ratan award by the Global Society for Health and Educational Growth, New Delhi for his contribution in the field of Medical Sciences.
A certificate and memento were presented to him during a seminar on the 'Individual achievements and National Development' held on Feb 12 in New Delhi, according to a statement issued by the media advisor of RIMS.
