Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen S Choudhury, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC arrived here on a visit to the State today to take stock of the prevailing law and order situation.
The General Officer took stock of the situation and expressed his satisfaction over the situation in Manipur.
He also emphasized on the importance of well co-ordinated operations between the Army, Assam Rifles and the Civil Police authorities to ensure that the State is kept free from the writs of militants and to effect measures wherein the militants be encouraged to join the mainstream, a PIB Defence Wing release said.
The General Officer was received by Major General R Singh, YSM, General Officer Commanding of 57th Mountain Division on his arrival.
The visiting General Officer also met senior military commanders at Leimakhong and Kangla and discussed the situation in the State.
The General gave guidelines for maintaining security, especially in view of the post election scenario and exhorted all ranks of the Army and Assam Rifles to continue the good works being done in controlling insurgency while ensuring professionalism.
He further emphasized on the importance of carrying out people friendly activities to win over the hearts and minds of the populace.
