TheZomi Students Federation (ZSF), a Lamka-based student body today decided to suspend its proposed indefinite bandh of Churachandpur district from May 4 in view of the good progress made in the case involving the killing of Paubiakthang of New Lamka on the night of April 26 at Tuibuong bazaar by unidentified armed persons.
A reliable source, in the meanwhile, said that the police have today made a breakthrough in the case and arrested two suspects in the murder.
Police identified the two suspects as Nehminthang Haokip alias Albert of Teisiseng village and Tongzalet Haokip alias Henom (35) of Tuibong.
In a press conference held at Hotel Eden, Zion Street here at 3 pm today, the ZSF president H.Mangchinkhup said that the student body had at least three meetings with the DC and SP, Churachandpur since Saturday and expressed appreciation over the tremendous efforts made by the District Administration and the District Police to crack the case.
Apart from that, the organization is well aware of the BA/BSc examinations starting today and believes with the case progressing well, it would be counter productive to call an indefinite bandh at this time, he added.
He also expressed hope that ex-gratia payment will also be paid by the Government to the family of the deceased, as-demanded by the ZSF.
The next meeting to discuss progress made is tentatively scheduled for May 10, but it could be advanced depending on how things develop in the coming days, he said.
It may be mentioned that the ZSF had earlier demanded payment of Rs 2 lakhs as ex gratia to the family of the deceased and threatened that it will be constrained to call a total bandh in the entire district from May 4 if the killers are not arrested by then.
