Imphal, May 03:
Swearing by the territorial integrity of Manipur, various social organizations have come out strongly against former Indian Prime Minister and National president of Janata Dal (Secular) HD Deve Gowda who said that his party would be working towards integration of all Naga inhabited areas.
Deve Gowda had made the statement while addressing an election rally at Dimapur yesterday.
All Manipur United Clubs' Organization (AMUCO) denounced Gowda as an 'imperialist agent' and asserted that his real intention was not to bring any solution but to create more problems.
It is really unfortunate that a political figure of Gowda's stature should try to pass off the movement for self determination in the North East and that of the Nagas as one of division of lands, publicity secretary of AMUCO Tompok Likmabam said in a statement.
Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) while condemning the statement in the strongest term has demanded that Gowda personally clarify over the matter to the people of Manipur and warned of 'uprooting' his party Janata Dal (Secular) from the soil of Manipur in the event of failing to comply with the demand within five days from today.
Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal said that Gowda should not challenge the territorial integrity of Manipur which has a history of over more 2000 years just to garner some votes besides trying to sow seeds of discord among the people of the North Eastern region which have seen co-existing in mutual harmony since time immemorial.
MAFYF has always stood for the territorial integrity of Manipur and is ready to counter any move to disintegrate Manipur, he said.
Informing that representatives of MAFYF have met with State unit JD (S) president and Ex-MP W Kullabidhu over the matter and apprised him of the stand of the organization, Kangleipal said that Kullabidhu had also assured the representatives of doing the needful.
Meanwhile, All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur State Council flayed Deve Gowda for his alleged inflammatory statement and demanded that Gowda should retract his statement.
