Source: The Sangai Express Two houses located to the north of Pratap Talkies here were ravaged by fire this afternoon at about 4.30 pm.
However, the adjacent houses were saved from the razing fire by timely arrival of fire tenders.
The two houses belong to MA Gaffar and MA Salim.
The houses leased out on rent was being occupied by one Jahid from Bihar who runs a grocery store while the ground floors served as office/shop of the Foam and Leather Agency and HR Farm.
Md Jahid said that the fire might have originated from electric short circuit.
All the belongings of the family and articles kept in the house including clothes have been destroyed by the fire, Jahid said.
Explosions of two LPG cylinders were also heard when the fire started engulfing the houses.
Following the explosions, the fire spread to the adjacent house belonging to one Moirangthem Roben and it was partially burnt.
It is reported that an amount of Rs 5.28 lakhs in cash kept in Roben's house has been consumed by the fire.
Fire tenders finally put the ravaging fire under control at about 5.30 pm before it could spread to other houses and shops.
