Even as the World routinely observes the World Tuberculosis (TB) Day every March 24 in an endeavour to battle the infection, the condition of the State TB Hospital located at Lei Inkhol, Chingmeirong has become a matter of concern.
Visiting the Hospital campus on the eve of the World TB Day, Hueiyen Lanpao found that the fencing of the building has been in shambles.
The hospital beds, doors and windows in the male and female wards have been shattered apart from the unhygienic and dirt that adorned the campus and corridors of the hospital.
The condition of the toilets has also been in pathetic state.
These apart, the patients of the hospital have also lodged complains that the food items being served in the hospital are also tasteless and almost inedible.
Talking to this reporter, a patient of the hospital revealed that the inmates are already fed up of the tea, milk etc which were disgusting to have.
He told that they were sometimes served rotten eggs.
Umpteen times the previous Director of the Hospital was urged for the improvement of the hospital but till now nothing tangible has been done, staff of the hospital said.
Shocked at the pitiable condition of the hospital, the incumbent Director, Dr Motilal has assured that the condition of the hospital will be improved, they said.
The hospital staffs have also expressed concern over the inconvenience caused to the patients' party by the surrounding residents who more often than not indulge in cheating the patients and their attendants.
Being one of the most important hospitals in the state, the patients need better treatment while urging to solve the grievances without much ado and also to provide adequate security.
Meanwhile, the State TB Officials, led by TB Officer, Dr O Manihar have distributed various edibles to TB patients at the State TB Hospital, Chingmeirong today on the eve of the World TB Day.
The officers has also inspected the conditions of the patients and interacted with them about their health.
