Giving a huge encouragement to the pineapple growers of Imphal East district, Vice Chancellor of Central Agricultural University (CAU) Iroisemba, Dr SN Puri has assured his full co-operation in commissioning a pineapple processing unit for the farmers.
Dr Puri gave his assurance during his speech in the inaugural function of a five-day capacity building programme organised at the varsity for the farmers who are under the jurisdiction of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Andro today.
The programme is being organised by KVK Andro under the aegis of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
Dr Puri was the chief guest of the inaugural function.
Maintaining that major part of the agricultural land in the State are being left unused after these have been used once every year, Dr Puri emphasised on the need for water harvesting to practice crop rotation in the State.
Dean of College of Agriculture (CAU), Registrar of CAU, Dean of College of Veterinary, Aizawl and Project Director of ATMA Imphal East were also the members of the dais of the said function.
Imphal East extension functionaries from Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and Sericulture departments are taking part in the programme.
In the morning and evening technical sessions, programme co-ordinator of KVK Andro, Dr T Medhabati gave lecture on the responsibilities of extension functionaries in developing agriculture in the State.
SMS of Agriculture Engineer of KVK Andro, PT Sharma spoke on the types of equipment needed for farm mechanisation.
Later, Plant Protection SMS gave lecture on implementation of IPM.
