Imphal, March 23 2009:
Independent Legislature Forum would not only be supporting the candidate of the regional party, People's Democratic Alliance, Mani Charenamei in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency but would also participate in the election campaign, convenor of the Alliance MLA Morung Makunga has informed.
Talking to mediapersons at Babupara here today, Makunga said as it does not like to sup with other National parties like Congress, BJP and NCP, the Independent Legislature Forum has taken the decision of supporting the PDA after a serious consideration of the prevailing political situation in India and Manipur.
The Independent MLAs who are part of the Forum include Wungnaoshang Keishing, Dr Khashim Ruivah, Danny Shaiza, K Raina, Awangbow Newmai, M Thorii and K Khangthuanang.
Wungnaoshang Keishing who was also present at the occasion noted that the Independent Legislature Forum has been compelled to take the decision of extending support to a regional political party like PDA which has taken birth from the very soil of the region as the National Parties have always suppressed and neglected the smaller States.
Moreover, as there is no pre-poll alliance between PDA and any other political parties, the Independent Legislature Forum would try its level best towards strengthening the position of PDA and ensure the success of its candidate in the election, the MLA added.
MLA Awangbow Newmai was also present during the meeting with the mediapersons.
It may be noted here that along with naming sitting MP Mani Charenamei as its candidate for the Lok Sabha election from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, PDA has even released its election manifesto.
