Following the arrest of two members of a gang of vehicle lifters by a mobile team of RPF/PLA Division IV, it has been learnt that one IRB personnel is also a member of the gang.
According to RPF's Assistant Chief of the Department of Communication and Publicity, the outfit got information that a black coloured Honda Activa (MN 01-4943) was hijacked from a student coming for tuition class at Heirangoithong Jaganatha Achouba Leirak by 2/3 persons clad in the uniform of IRB/MR on June 1.On the same day, some IRB personnel were also on frisking duty at Heirangoithong area.
On receiving information of the hijacking, a mobile team of the PLA launched an investigation into the incident.
The mobile team pulled up two individuals coming on a Honda Activa and Pulsar without registration number platses and documents at Ningomthongjao area at about 8 am yesterday.
The two individuals were identified as Md Atao Rehman (36) s/o Md Habibula of Haoreibi Makha Leikai Lairakhong and Md Apik Amu alias Abdul Rehman (26) s/o Md Tomba of Sora Bazar.
When they were detained for questioning, Md Apik Amu managed to escape.
According to the disclosure of Md Atao Rehman, Md Apik and he brought the Honda Activa and Bajaj Pulsar (maroon colour) from Hatta yesterday.
They were escorted to some distance by 3rd IRB rifleman Md Sahid (36) of Sora staying currently at Hatta and one contractor Angamba of Haobam Marak in a red car (Tata Indica).
Md Atao further disclosed that Angamba used to carry cash for one Great of an underground outfit.
The RPF spokesperson informed that Md Apik Amu has taken refuge in a camp of security forces.
One Tomba of Sekmaijin is also a member of the gang.
The vehicles in the custody of RPF may be claimed by the owners relevant documents and evidences within a month, conveyed the spokesperson.
RPF would not take responsibility for the vehicles if there is no claim within a month.
The spokesperson has also warned Md Apik Amu, IRB rifleman Sahid, Angamba and Tomba to surrender to the outfit at the earliest.
Disclosing that Md Atao Rehman is also a drug abuser, the spokesperson informed that Md Atao would be handed over to family members after proper counselling against indulging in such anti-social activities in future.
