Imphal, June 21:
Even as the parents of Kongkham Bijeta of Nambol Kongkham Mayai Leikai approached nine civil organisations for investigating into the case of alleged abduction of their daughter by one Chirom Jiten of Wahengkhuman Mamang Leikai since May 25 afternoon, Bijeta and her alleged abductor have come out with their side of the story.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here, Kongkham Jugeshwore, father of Bijeta asserted that all the charges levelled by the former wife of Tiken through newspapers are baseless and they have no idea about it.
We have approached the nine civil organisations to help in finding out the whereabouts of my daughter and find out the truth of the matter, he said, while assuring that if his daughter had gone along with the man of her own accord, then he would solemnise their marriage in accordance to the social norms.
On the other hand, talking to mediapersons somewhere in Imphal West District, Tiken and Bijeta clarified that there is no question of abduction as both of them are in love and decided to elope on May 24 last and they have been hiding in Assam for these days.
Tiken informed that he met Bijeta for the first time on December 9 last year at a Bora Hotel at Nambol Makha Leikai.
Apart from the father of Bijeta, all her family members knew that he was a married man and as a result that also tried to stop Bijeta from meeting him.
Giving the reason for hiding in Assam after the elopement, Tiken said they were compelled to do so after KYKL started looking for him in connection with Rs 3 lakhs which he had taken from a resident of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai for the purpose of prevailing upon for selection in the appointment of graduate teacher through one of his brother who is an activist of the proscribed outfit.
The outfit has asked him to come on February 16 but he did not go.
Since that day he has been on the run.
At first he did not disclosed this matter to Bijeta.
His brother who is a KYKL activist also did not know about the money he had taken, he said, adding he has been trying to return back the money after communicating with the proscribed outfit.
While disclosing that he got married for the first time in 1996 and has four children, 28-year old Tiken informed that he had eloped three girls earlier.
He also refuted the allegation of his involvement in making pornographic film at Mumbai.
Bijeta said they decided to elope of their own accord.
Five days after the elopement, she telephoned her mother requesting not to put pressure on the family members of Tiken as she had eloped with him of her own volition.
The nine civil organisation which the parents of Bijeta have approached for help are UMO, AMSU, NIPCO, MEEKHOL, FREINDS, UPF, EECHAL, DESAM and Nambol Mamang Leikai Meira Paibis Lup.
In connection with the case, a member of MEEKHOL said the request for investigation is welcomed, but it would be important to understand the background and the other related matters of the case in detail before taking up the investigation.
An EECHAL member categorically stated that nothing could be said on the request for investigation in the case before discussing the matter with other executive members.
UMO and other organisations felt that investigation into the matter would be essential to find out the truth.
