A one day farmers' training programme was held today at Konthoujam Makha Leikai community hall under the aegis of Cotton Development Officer, Department of Agriculture.
The training programme was attended by Speaker Dr S Budhichandra and ex-Zila Parishad member Salam Leibakmacha as chief guest and president respectively.
While lamenting the loss of work culture among the youths today, Budhichandra noted that people used to wait for the State Government which they can do jointly without much difficulty.
He observed that farmers need to be more professional and to increase their crop yield by taking help of relevant experts.
Speaking as guest of honour ex-Pradhan Thaninjao Rongmei called upon the farmers to learn modern techniques of farming from the experts and to implement the knowledge for their benefit.
K Ibohal of the Agriculture Department spoke on cultivation of maize as a means of enhancing farmers' income.
Rt Deputy Director of Agriculture Dept N Dhiren imparted training to the participants on cultivation of rice using modern technologies and methods.
Plant Pathologist Dr M Noinoi enlightened the farmers on common plant diseases and means to protect paddy and other crops from various diseases.
