Kohima, April 11 (NNN):
The Nagaland Cabinet during a meeting held in Kohima on Friday decided to recommend extension of the ceasefire between the Government of India and the NSCN (K) to the Central leaders.
According to official sources, the recommendation was aimed at furthering the peace process in the State.
The current ceasefire between both sides will expire on April 30.The Government of India and the NSCN (K) first entered into a ceasefire in 2001 and since then it has been extended by a period of one year annually.
According to sources, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and some of his Cabinet colleagues, who are presently in Delhi, will recommend extension of the ceasefire between both sides to the Central leaders by the end of this week.
Before that the Chief Minister will attend the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for April 12.Rio is also expected to take up Nagaland's ongoing dispute with Assam over-land ownership with the Central leaders.
It may be mentioned the Government of India's ceasefire with the NSCN (IM) will expire on July 31.They first signed a ceasefire agreement in 1997 and since then have been holding parleys to hammer out a solution to the decades old Naga political problem.
