Imphal, April 11:
Even as the 7 day Statewide bandh called by one faction of the KCP and the general strike called by MEELAL is still in force, a large number of women under the aegis of Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup, Singjamei, came out to the streets today evening at Singjamei Chingamakha along with their kitchen utensils to protest the frequent imposition of bandhs, general strikes and blockades in the State.
Along with the novel protest, perhaps the first of its kind, the women folk also demanded that the Government resolve the impasse over Meetei Mayek.
In a symbolic gesture, the women folk placed their kitchen utensils, which included pots, pans, tongs spoons and ladles and placed them on the road, inviting the vehicles to run over them.
The women folk made no bones in stating that the frequent imposition of bandhs and blockades have dealt a hard blow on their economy, especially in meeting the daily requirements, such as food.
They also appealed to all to review the imposition of the ongoing bandh immediately in view of the upcoming Cheiraoba festival.
The economic blockade imposed by MEELAL came into force from March 23 while the statewide bandh came into force from April 10.On the other hand, barely 24 hours after the secretary of the publicity and propaganda department of one faction of the proscribed KCP debunked the seven days Statewide bandh called by the faction led MK Mangang in support of the demand raised by MEELAL to implement Meetei Mayek, another faction of the same outfit, has also disowned the bandh call, dubbing the MK Mangang faction as a group of impostors, acting under the name of the KCP.
In a statement Pibarel Mangang, publicity secretary of one faction of the outfit said that KCP has not imposed any statewide bandh.
Mincing no words, the statement said that the bandh was called by a group of gangs masquerading as KCP cadres.
The statement said that KCP fully supports the cause taken up by MEELAL but added that as a revolutionary outfit it will never expose the people to hardships by imposing any bandh.
Now the people of Manipur will realise who are the real revolutionaries and who are the impostors masquerading as KCP cadres, added the statement.
Meanwhile the MK Mangang faction of the KCP which is behind the bandh call today said that the same will be relaxed on April 13 and 14from5 am till 9 pm.
In a statement, MK Mangang said that the bandh is being relaxed on April 13 to enable the people to pay their respect and homage to the martyrs on the occasion of Martyrs' Day of RPF at Cheiraoching.
