Imphal, April 11:
Urging the people to come forward and share their thoughts on the demand to implement Meetei Mayek, DESAM today suggested that the discussions ought to move away from the mode of agitation currently employed but to concentrate on the roots of the issue as well as for whom the demand is being raised.
In a statement, DESAM urged the prominent civil societies of the land including UCM, AMUCO, Kuki Inpi, UNC, IPSA, student bodies like AMSU, MSF, KSO, ANS AM and political leaders from different political parties to come forward and share their views.
The student body also called upon the teaching community of MU, colleges and schools to give suggestions.
In a confident tone, the student body said that the movement for implementing Meetei Mayek will surely succeed as the indigenous script has become a necessity.
The points that need to be discussed include, from what stage Meetei Mayek should be introduced in the schools as well as how to chart out policies to educated the mass on the script, said DESAM.
The student body said that such steps will not take much time adding that it has already started planning on how to go about it.
The plans will be put into place on the basis of the fact that it is justified as well as necessary, added DESAM.
There should be no problem at all in switching to Meetei Mayek from Bengali script, said the statement adding that it will also not pose any problem to the hill people either, reasoning that Meetei Mayek is less complex and more convenient than Bengali script.
The indigenous script will also foster closer ties between the people, it claimed and reasoned that it will revive the close ties shared between the people of different communities.
