Imphal, September 11, 2009:
In the wake of the demolition of the Nongpok Sekmai Primary Health Centre by UG cadres, Health Minister Ph Parijat has stated that security forces would not be allowed to occupy any health centre.
Accompanied by local MLA M Oken and Health Director Dr W Motilal, Parijat paid a visit to the demolished PHC today.
The PHC building occupied by BSF was constructed by TP Cell.
Though construction work was complete, the PHC building was not yet given to Health Department, Parijat said.
Construction work of the PHC started in 2000. Saying that demolition of the health centre was not acceptable, Parijat stated that no security forces would be allowed to occupy any health centre.
He also assured that the demolished PHC building would be re-built within six months.
The Minister also inspected some buildings/areas where the PHC can be housed temporarily before a new building is constructed.
M Oken said that the area needs deployment of state forces.
The villagers apprised the team that the health centre was attacked five times earlier because of security forces occupying it.
They also appealed to the Health Minister to make necessary arrangements at an appropriate site so that the PHC can function before a new building is constructed.
