Works Minister, K Ranjit today inaugurated Senapati Hospital Bridge built across the Senapati River by the PWD with an estimated cost of Rs 1.59 crore funded by the Ministry of Surface Transport.
Minister Ranjit speaking on the occasion said that state works department will take up the repairing of the NH 39 from Taphou Kuki village to Maram with a distance of 27.2 km at the earliest assuring if no disturbance is given, PWD can complete the work within one month time.
The minister also inspected the conditions of the road with engineers.
Taking to the villagers he ensured minor repairing works prior to the construction within one week.
However, the prevailing situation of the state after the incident of 23\7 which sparks from August 2 is giving hurdle in the repairing work.
In the meantime, drivers of the transports and many unions disseminated his visit as a picnic party and come down to bandh, Ranjit said.
He also appealed to the people stop the habit of calling bandhs or strike without knowing what the government is doing.
In spite of the worst law and order situation of the state, he managed to start the repairing work with three contractors using 60 vehicles including eight excavators, he said.
But some UG groups demanded Rs 20000 each from each vehicle and caused many disturbances.
The repairing work can be done using only five or six machines but 60 machines will be used in order to complete the work at the earliest.
He further appealed the villagers for their cooperation in the construction work road to avoid such disturbance so that the construction work of the road may complete soon.
Tribal Development Minister, DD Thaisi who attended the function denied the allegations of various organisations that the state government is doing nothing for the welfare of the hill peoples.
As for Senapati district, the government is planning to build a Polytechnic and a Sports Complex besides many other developmental works, he said.
The function which works minister, K Ranjit and TD Minister, DD Thaisi as chief guest and president, MLA M Thohri also attended the function as guest of honour.
