A two-day environment awareness camp organised by the Auxiliary Service for Human Affairs (ASHA), Sagolmang, Imphal East under the theme of Climate change concluded at Sagolmang High School hall today.
The programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, New Delhi through Environment and Ecology Office, Porompat (RRA-Manipur State).
The camp was inaugurated by Zilla Parishad member of Imphal East Zilla Parishad W Kumar Singh as chief guest, Headmaster of Sagolmang Government High School S Surjamani Singh as functional president and S Nando Singh, MSW as guest of honour.
It was followed by talk on various topics related to the theme by K Pattra Singh of Forest BO, Sagolmang; S Nando Singh, MSW and A Rajendra Sharma, environmentalist as resource persons.
Around 100 youths and students coming from 10 different villages under Sawombung CD Block and Saikul TD Block participated in the camp.
As part of the camp, a social service cum cleanliness drive under the sub-theme 'Plastic waste' was also conducted at the campus of CHC, Sawombung on the concluding day today.
The camp was officially declared closed by chairman of ASHA.
On the other hand, Earth Care Foundation (ECF), Kiyam Siphai, Thoubal conducted the National Environment Awareness Campaign, 2008-09 at Kiyam Suphai Government Junior High School.
Around 53 people participated in the campaign which was conducted under the sponsorship of Environment and Ecology Wing, Porompat.
The theme of the campaign was 'Climate change'.
Retired principal of Waikhom Mani Girls' College N Sanaton Singh and social worker K Madhumangol Singh attended the inaugural function of the campaign as chief guest and president respectively.
Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Thoubal N Tomba Singh spoke on the topic of climate change as resource person.
Over 100 trees including medicinal plants were also planted in and around the campus of Kiyam Siphai Government Junior High School to mark the occasion.
