Imphal, June 11 2009:
Unidentified gun men whisked away a contractor while he was fast asleep from his bed last night.
According to police sources, contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas alias Das (42) of Kakching Sumak Leikai was abducted from his wife's place at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai at about 9.50 pm yesterday.
Following registration of a case, Imphal police have launched a manhunt to trace the abducted contractor.
Family members said that although the abductors could not be identified, they seemed to know all the lanes, entrance and exit around the house.
They wielded small arms and swords.
Keisham Gopal (63), Krishnadas's father-in-law, recounted that around four armed persons intruded into the house asking who was the elder/head of the house at about 8 pm.
At that time, the entrance gate was already closed.
They might have entered into the home after jumping over the low brick-wall of the neighbouring house.
But as the iron-grill of the portico was open, they easily came into the house.
Without paying any heed to all the enquiries of Gopal, the armed took the stairs to the first floor.
One of my son who followed them was held at gun point and forced to point out his brother-in-law's room.
To this, Gopal's son called out his sister in front of her room.
Just as the door was opened, the armed persons dragged our Krishnadas from the bed.
Then they whisked away Krishnadas through the rear of the house in the direction of AG Colony.
Moments later, gun shots were heard thrice in quick succession.
Quoting eye witnesses, Gopal said that the armed persons took away his son-in-law in a white Maruti van.
"We are not sure if he was hurt in the gun-fire but he sustained knife injury during a scuffle with the abductors inside our house", Gopal said.
Meanwhile, the Ibudhou Naohal Lai Committee, Kakching Keithel has decried the abduction of Krishnadas.
A press release issued by the Committee appealed to all concerned to release Krishnadas safely, even if he had committed faults in the interest of family and also to give him a chance to rectify himself.
It further asked all concerned to own the act and explain reasons behind the abduction.
The South Eastern Sporting Union, Kakching Sumak Leikai has also condemned the abduction.
It further appealed for safe release of Krishnadas.
