The District Vector Borne Diseases Control Society, Tamenglong kicked off anti-malaria month observance here today with Tamenglong ADC L Heramani as chief guest.
State Malaria Officer H Nimaichand and Don Bosco School Tamenglong Principal Fr Mathew Tharakan and Tamenglong Chief Medical Officer Dr Chambo Gonmei as guests of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, L Heramani stressed on the need of creating awareness among the masses and hence the need for extensive campaign.
He hailed the District Malaria office for its initiative towards this end.
DMO K Gunamani said that "information, education and communication (IEC) activities will be organised in ten schools for women self help groups under the anti-malaria month awareness campaign.
CMO Dr Chambo Gonmei observed that malaria meaning "bad air" has been one of the dreaded diseases that has killed millions of people.
Research was still going on to find its vaccines, he said.
Captain Nair, Medical Officer of 11 Assam Rifles, posted at Tamenglong who attended the function as special guest said that majority of the victims of malaria were children.
He also assured all possible assistance in preventing and combating malaria.
Later in the evening, an inter-sectorial meeting of various Govet Departments was held at District Hospital programmes for the month-long observance were deliberated upon.
Disability camp: A Disability Assessment cum Awareness Camp for distribution of disability certificates would be organised by Social Welfare Department in association with the State Medical Board at Nambol Chingmang on June 13 from 9 am to 4 pm, conveyed a press release.
