Imphal, June 11 2009:
Reacting to the claim of Assam Rifles PRO that an aide and arm smuggler of the UNLF was apprehended from Moreh on June 9, the proscribed UNLF has refuted any connection whatsoever with the alleged smuggler Zawin.
A press release issued by the outfit's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba claimed that the outfit, as a matter of policy, never bought weapons from smugglers.
Arms and weapons for the UNLF/MPA were bought at reduced rates from recognised arms suppliers/farms based at foreign countries who recognised/supported the liberation struggle.
Citing the case of Satish of Singjamei Oinam Thingel, the outfit accused security forces of committing murder and rape besides holding them responsible for several cases of involuntary disappearance.
It further alleged that Seram Priyokumar and Laishram Keshorjit of Urup Litan Makhong, who were killed in a reported encounter by troops of 20 AR at Maipi-Angbrasu track on June 2, were innocent civilians going to Moreh to procure goods for retail sale.
Pulled-out eyes, deadly bruises and burn wounds on different parts of their bodies clearly testified that they were killed in fake encounter, alleged the outfit.
