Imphal, June 11 2009:
The MPP's working committee today has entrusted the disciplinary action committee to take a final decision on whether the jailed Andro A/C MLA Th Shyamkumar, who has not only resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker but has also been suspended from the primary membership of the party on alleged charge of working against the interest of the party, should remain with the party or not.
On the other hand, this has started raising the question among the political parties whether Shyamkumar would be attending the upcoming winter session of the Assembly or not.
After a serious deliberation on the issue, the MPP's working committee in a meeting presided by party president Dr L Chandramani later on entrusted the disciplinary action committee to submit a final report in this regard.
The five-member disciplinary action committee of the party is headed by former Union Minister Th Chaoba as chairman.
Other members of the committee include MLAs RK Anand, Dr I Ibohalbi, Dr Ng Bijoy and former Minister P Achou.
It may be recalled here that along with suspending Shyamkumar from the primary membership of MPP for his alleged anti-party activities, a meeting of the core committee of the party held on May 20 last had also entrusted the disciplinary action committee to look into what action should be initiated against him.
Today's working committee meeting has also decided to organise a three-day special session of the party starting from June 21 to discuss the performance of MPP in the last Parliament election.
Expected to be attended by all district presidents, kendra presidents, office bearers and delegate members, the special session would also chart out the action plans of the party with an eye on the general election of the State Assembly scheduled in 2012.On June 29, the central committee of the party would hold a meeting to take various decisions on issues related to present financial position of the party, administration and political atmosphere in the State.
Meanwhile, with the next session of the Assembly likely to be convened in July, political parties have started questioning the Govt on whether the jailed MLA Shyamkumar would be allowed to participate in the Assembly session or not.
Shyamkumar resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker on April 18 and surrender to the court in connection with a case on the same day.
Subsequently, he was suspended from the primary membership of MPP on April 29 .
