Imphal, May 06 2009:
Members of Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association staged a Wakat Meepham at Keishampat Junction here today appealing to the UG groups not to impose heavy monetary demands on drug stores.
It may be recalled here that the drug wholesellers in Imphal have shut down their respective stores since May 1 as they could not meet the monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs served by proscribed outfit KCP.
The monetary demand had been reportedly served though telephone on April 27.On May 2, the police forced open the stores of the wholesellers.
However, as no security had been provided.
On the following day , the proscribed outfit again served the demand through telephone by reducing the amount to Rs 5 lakhs.
But as the wholesellers are in no position to meet the said demand as well, the stores have down their shutters since then.
According to the demonstrators, the matter has been brought to the notice of All India Organisation of Chemist and Druggist.
However, if the situation remains the same, there is the possibility that the affiliation of Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association may be cancelled, they added.
On the other hand, decrying the bomb attack/threat at Arun Groups of Communications, a video editing centre located at Lamphel Super Market, a Wakat Meepham was staged today.
Unidentified armed persons hurled a hand grenade at the centre in the afternoon of May 3.However, the hand grenade did not exploded.
It is said that the centre had not received any monetary demand either through demand notes or verbally from any UG groups or unknown armed persons.
