Ukhrul district police have arrested a rationing agent on alleged charge of selling off rice quota meant for public distribution on the sly.
The arrested rationing agent has been identified as LH Luingam (42) s/o Yarkao of Tuisen.
He was arrested by the district police from Ukhrul in the afternoon today.
Luingam has been charged with swindling and selling off 41 quintal of rice allotted under BPL/AAY as quota for the people of Tuisen village in Ukhrul district.
In the subsequent action of raiding the houses of the of co-accused/buyers, the district police have also recovered 76 bags of rice each containing 50 kgs, according to information received from Ukhrul police.
Along with registering a case for further investigation, the arrested person would be produced before the court of CJM Ukhrul for remand in police custody, the source informed.
