In all 69 people including members of different UG groups and members of gun-runners were apprehended and a huge cache of arms and ammunition seized by Imphal East district Police Commandos during the operations launched in Lamlai area since the last two months.
Displaying the seized arms and ammunition at the Imphal East district police headquarters at Porompat today, SP Th Radheshyam told mediapersons that a series of offensive operations have been launched since July 17 last against the activities of KCP-MTF (City Meetei) cadres in Lamlai areas.
As part of these operations, district police commandos set up posts at Yaingangpokpi, Lamlai (Napet) and Sekta.
Besides the co-ordination between the civil police and police commandos, the support given by the public led to the arrest of 69 people and bringing down crime rate in the district, the SP claimed.
Among the 69 arrested, seven are KCP-MTF cadres who were involved in various violent incidents and crimes including killing, shooting and abducting people, the SP said, while identifying them as RK James Tangkhul (18) of Somsai, Ukhrul district; Konsam Naocha (30) of Huidrom Litan Makhong; Heikrujam Ranjan (19) of Nungoi Mayai Leikai; Mayengbam Allen alias Nonglengamba (19) of the same locality; Khaidem Nabakumar alias Nanao (31) of Samurou Awang Leikai and Nepram Priyojit alias Nanao (18) of Leimakhong Chingmang.
11 other KCP cadres, 21 cadres KCP-MC, 1 KLA cadre, 6 KLA (U) cadres, 3 KYKL cadres, 3 KYKL-MDF cadres, 14 PREPAK cadres, 4 PULF cadres, 2 UKLA (MC) cadres, 1 UNLF cadre, 1 UNPC cadre, 1 gun-runner and a member of the gang were also among the 69 arrested, the SP disclosed.
One lethod launcher, one AK-47 rifle, one US carbine, nine 9 mm pistols, two point 32 pistols, hand grenades and demand notes were among the arms, ammunition and other incriminating documents seized from them, the SP added.
Involvement of juvenile youths of both sexes who have not yet attained 18 years of age in such violent incidents have been detected during the course of the offensive operations.
In accordance to the law of the land, four such juvenile youths have been handed over to their respective parents/guardians after proper counselling by a designated office as per the law of the land.
It also pleaded to check if the deserving applicants of Die-in-Harness scheme were given their due share of quotas.
The memorandum also said that the waiting list of 74 candidates must be checked if it was binding of Government rules and norms.
It asked how the candidate bearing Roll No 4 with Sl No 4 of MGEL list in respect of ADC, Chandel submitted to the concerned State Government was included while he was an absentee in the written test for recruitment of Primary teachers 2009-10.
