Imphal, March 04 2009:
Strongly protesting the failure of the Government to appoint a full fledged Chief Engineer, following the retirement of G Tonsana as the CE on February 28, civil Engineers of the PWD have decided to take mass casual leave on March 5 and 6. The disappointment of the civil Engineers has also been compounded by the decision of the Government to appoint an Additional Chief Engineer from the Power Department, W Kesho as the Chief Engineer in charge of the PWD.
The civil Engineers are demanding that the Chief Engineer of the PWD should be drawn from amongst the civil Engineers and not from other stream.
Let an electrical Engineer be the Chief Engineer of the Power Department and let a civil Engineer be the Chief Engineer of the PWD, they demanded.
Right man for the right post, is our demand said the civil Engineers.
The PWD has 27 sub-divisions and out of these two are Mechanical division while another three are Electrical.
The rest are all in the civil section.
The current problem has also been made more complex due to the wranglings over the seniority list of Assistant Engineers.
With the Govt failing to stick to the laid down procedures, the wranglings over the seniority continue to persist, said some civil Engineers while talking to the press.
