Imphal, March 04 2009:
Objecting to the proposal of shifting the office of ADC from Moreh, three organisations based at the border town have decided to call general strike along the Imphal-Moreh Road for three days starting from March 9. Conveying the joint decision of Hill Tribal Council, Kuki Chiefs' Association and Kuki Students' Union to The Sangai Express, the president of KSO Moreh Block Seihong Haokip informed that a memorandum to this effect has been submitted jointly to the Chief Minister today.
The decision to impose the general strike has been constraint to be taken as the Government has not given any response to an earlier memorandum submitted in this regard, Seithong added.
According to the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister today, a sea-change has been witnessed in the developmental scenario of the border town after setting up of the ADC/BDO office at Moreh in 1984.However, an order issued by the Principal Secretary (Revenue) on December 23 last year has transferred the power of the BDO Moreh.
Apart from possibility of encouraging communal flare, the move has also caused confusion among the Government officers and the people of the border town.
So, the Government should not shift the office of ADC/BDO from Moreh and the power of the BDO should be handed over to the SDO Tengnoupal, the memorandum demanded.
Setting March 8 as the deadline to the Government for giving a definite reply on the demand, the memorandum has also warned of taking recourse to various intense agitation.
However, the memorandum did not mention anything about imposing the general strike.
