The seventh two-day Khaorui Churches Fellowship Cum Sports Meet aimed at building a united strength for development among the people kicked off at Hongman Tangkhul village in Saikul Assembly Constituency of Senapati district today.
The meet has been holding for every three year since 1988 by changing the venue to four Tangkhul villages located within the Saikul Assembly Constituency namely Hotman, Mapou Kaithelmanbi, Mapou Khullen and Mapou Thangal.
The objective of organizing the meet was to preserve and uplift the traditional way of worship, games and to bring development in the villages with concerted effort, according to the organisers.
Observation of two minute silent to pay respect to the SDO, Kasom Khullen and his two staff, Rajen and Token who were killed in a brutal manner by the gathering marked the inaugural function of the meet.
The inaugural function of the fellowship cum sports meet was graced by special contractor of the Manipur Police Housing Corporation, Laishram Rajen as chief guest, chief of the Hongman Tankghul village Akhui Jimik as president.
President, Meetei National Front Chingsubam Wangambi, social worker RK Solomon, editor, Huieyen Lanpao (Meetei Mayek edition), Meisnam Sibadutta Luwang and social worker, Jayentakumar also attended as guest of honours.
Special contractor, Rajen speaking as chief guest while expressing hope of achieving the objective of the meet as stated by the organizer lauded the effort of the organizers to build a united strength among the same tribe of different villages and bring together in a common platform.
He also called for a concerted effort of people of all communities settling together in the state to fight challenges to the unity and integrity of the state.
He contributed Rs 5000 to the organizers to help in meeting the expenditure in the organization of the meet.
The event was also attended by chairman of the Khaorui Churches Fellowship, Robinson Bhasum, pastors of the Mapou village Rev M Sungkhai, Hotman village Rev Samuel Jimik, president of the Khaorui Katamnaolong Raikham.
The first day of the event was marked by volleyball match played between Mapou Keithelmanbi and Hotman Students Union and football match played between Mapou Students' Union and Hotman Students' Union.
