A joint border coordination meeting between Dimapur district administration, Nagaland and Karbi Anglong district administration, Assam held recently in Bokajan (Assam) discussed at length to check anti social activities like inflow of drugs and liquor, arms smuggling, extortions and killings and vehicles thefts through the porous border area in Dimapur (Nagaland) and Khakhati (Assam).
Official sources today said that Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner, MC Sahu, suggested for regular coordination meeting to share information and intelligence and joint patrolling by police of both the States to check illegal activities.
He also raised five agenda with regard to construction of RCC Bridge at Kargaon (Assam) and LRC Colony (Nagaland) bordering Assam and Nagaland State, construction process of RCC Bridge at Bor Lingri Assam and LRC Duncan Basti by public without formal approval from Assam Government, establishment of NSCN (U) camp at Burma Camp (Dimapur) and encroachment at Daldali Reserve forest.
Dimapur DC, Moangwati Aier stated that the main objective of constructing the bridges are mainly for the interest of the people of both the States' borders villages for commercial as well as educational purposes.
Regarding movement of underground cadres at Burma Camp area bordering Khakhati area of Assam, the DC said that there is no designated camp in the area and that the Dimapur district administration, police and security forces conducted a number of operations to flush out the cadres from the area, as they are not permitted to move about in the areas.
He further said that there are only two official designated camps, Hebron for NSCN-IM and the Kehoi for NSCN-K. Expressing displeasure over the existence of numerous liquor shops and booze joints at Lahorijan, which is in close proximity with Dimapur, he requested his counterpart to do his best to shift the liquor shops to other locations.
The DC also opposed the demolition of eight houses and a church at Taltali Reserve Forest belonging to the Nagas by Assam police and he urged on ceasing of such activities until a joint team of both the districts can be formed to conduct a survey to verify whether the area falls in Nagaland or Assam.
Besides the two Deputy Commissioners the meeting was attended SPs and administrative officers of both the district.
