Training for BCM members concludes

Manipur Biodiversity Board in collaboration with FRLHT, a leading Medicinal Plant conservation organisation based in Bangalore conducted a three-day training programme for BMC members at the Manipur Forest Training School, Luwangsangbam from December 4 to 6 .
The training programme had four levels, wherein the course is split up and designed for taking up in a distant education cum contact class mode.
The training progamme was jointly inaugurated by T S Ibobi Singh, Addl.
PCCF; Government of Manipur and Dr..KHaridasan, FRLHT, Bangalore as Chieg Guest and President respectively.
From the side of Manipur Diversity Board, Shital Singh, Assistant Conservator of Forests and Birmongal, Range Forest Officer coordinated the conduct of the training programme during which experts from FRLHT, Manipur University, IBSD, ORDC, KVK Hengbung and Forest department delivered lectures.
.NTombi Raj, President of Apunba Manipur Maiba, Maibi Phurup (Manipur State Traditional Healers Association) also interacted with the participants and introduced them to the rich Traditional Medicinal Heritage of the state.
He also explained about the documentation process of local health traditions to the participants.
The training programme aims to impart capacity in the BMCs for taking up the task of preparation of People's Biodiversity Registers which is a mandate under the National Biodiversity Act.
This will also enable the participants to take informed decision related to Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS under the CBD).
Altogether 22 participants representing 6 districts of the state underwent the training.
Dr.Khaizalian, Member Secretary, Manipur Biodiversity Board told that the board plans to impart such trainings to cover the entire state with the help of FRLHT and local organisations.
