MLA eyes tourist spot in Chingkhei hills

Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman Dr Ng Bijoy has stated that Chingkhei hills located within Khurai Assembly constituency in Imphal East district would be developed as a
tourist destination.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a community hall at Phaknung Awang Leikai today, Dr Bijoy informed the gathering that the Government has agreed to sanction Rs 4.60 crore for the particular project of developing Chingkhei hills as a tourist destination.
The project has such components as guest house, construction of stairway up to the top of the hill etc.
The project when fully completed would be highly beneficial to the people of Phaknung, Kangla, Sajeb etc.
Acquisition of land for developing an industrial estate at Moirangkampu Sajeb has been already completed.
Moreover, necessary fund for construction of a bridge at Khewa has been sanctioned, stated the MPCB Chairman.
Plans are also afoot to expand the road connecting Phaknung ITI to Tinsid Road.
The Phaknung IVR would be black-topped anew during the next financial year.
There is also another plan to construct a four-lane bridge over Iril river between Kangla Sangomshang and Angom Leikai as a part of NH 2 diversion project, Dr Bijoy added.
Kangla Gram Panchayat Pradhan W Ranibala, Sawombung Zilla Parishad Member Yumnam (O) Inaobi, former LDA Director Th Manihar and Khurai BCC president K Sanajaoba were also present at the inaugural function as presidium members.
