Imphal, November 17 2010:
The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research has selected the thesis of Dr Aribam Chandrakant, son of Dr Rajeshwar and P Shyama Devi of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai for the prestigious TAA-Harish Chandra Memorial Award for the year 2009-2010 .
The thesis is titled "Modular forms of Iwasawa theory." A letter confirming the selection was sent to Chandrakant by the Director of the institute.
The award is given for the best PhD thesis of the year submitted through the institute, based on the work done on Mathematics.

The prize carries a cash component of Rs 10,000 and a Medal.
Dr Sharma has been requested to make a representation of his thesis at TIFR to commemorate the Award at a time convenient to him.
Accordingly the award was presented on the foundation day of the institute at the Homi Bhaba Auditorium on October 30.Dr Chandrakant is presently working at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.
