The Central Board of Excise and Customs, which is under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India has given its approval to convert the ongoing border trade between India and Myanmar into normal trade.
With conversion into normal trade, there would be no restriction on transportation of any trade items through Imphal-Moreh stretch of NH39 .
Talking to The Sangai Express in this connection, Director of ExportImport, Manipur Maisnam Romesh said that with border trade between India and Myanmar through Moreh town of Manipur turning into a normal trade, there would be the need for introducing banking system, setting up of Food Testing Laboratory and implementation of the Customs rules.
Appealing to the Govt of Manipur for providing necessary facilities for normal trade at Moreh, the Director admitted that the Govt of Manipur has not been paying proper attention to the development of border trade activities.
