Differently able (hearing and speaking impaired) students of Manipur will give a powerful mime performance in the first ever five-day Zonal Mime Theatre Festival, 2010, organized by Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory, Imphal, from November 24-28 at Government Dance College, Palace Gate.
The festival which is supported and aided jointly by Ministry of Art and Culture, Government of India and State Government will host mime theatre groups from Assam, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh besides four host groups.
Kalpataru Guha, a national awardee from West Bengal, Madhusudan, an SNA awardee from Andhra Pradesh, Moinul Haque, an SNA awardee from Assam, Nisabda Mime Group from Assam, H Tombi Sharma, a veteran mime group and Ekta group penta fusion team will give powerful mime performance during the festival.
The hearing and speaking impaired students of Manipur will be a special attraction of the festival.
The festival will be officially inaugurated by 15 students welcoming the invitees with rhythm dance.
The opening act opens with Drum Dance and Krishna Abhisa performed by Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory, Imphal, alongside photo and craft exhibitions.
On all the festival days between 7 to 8 p.m., videos from South Korea, Japan, Manipur and Europe; best mime videos from across the world and creative dances etc.
will be screened.
Mime play titled Mirel Masingkha, bringing alive the life and struggle of Irom Sharmila chanu, who has recently clocked 10 odd years of her fast-unto-death protest against Armed Forces Special Act, 1958, will be staged during the festival.
The objective of this festival, according to the organizer, is to plug the gap that exists in the art of mime theatre.
