Imphal, November 17 2010:
Two political parties, MPP and BJP, came down heavily on the Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government for "miserably" failing to bring the supply of petroleum products in the state on track.
MPP criticized Chief Minister, O Ibobi and minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Y Erabot behind the acute fuel scarcity faced by the state while the BJP, Manipur Pradesh lamented that the SPF government is now neither "secular" and "progressive" .
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang said Chief Minister and CAF&DP minister are behind the non-availability of petroleum products in the state.
They have thrown the common people into the jaw of death.
MPP feels that there is no rule of law in the state under the SPF government and called upon the people to teach a lesson to the Congress in the coming 2012 general elections to the state Assembly, the president said.
He said that MPP feels ashamed of the Congress party in Manipur being proud of the inauguration of the three multi-storey women's market sheds by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
They do not care the state government spent a huge public money for her visit, she commented nothing on the problems confronting the people of the state.
Sonia by not touching any of the issues in front of the people has shown that the Congress is not a party which thinks of the welfare of the people.
The acute fuel scarcity being experienced in the state will not be solved just by summoning IOC officials.
The only thing people want is availability of fuel.
No economic blockade is imposed on the highway, no landslide or any other disturbances occurred on the highways.
SPF government has no reason to give to justify the fuel scarcity.
There is the hand of big black marketers behind the artificial fuel scarcity.
With no justifiable reason, The SPF government should resign, Nimaichand said.
When even kerosene, a daily essential item in every household in the state is unavailable, why does a popular government, he asked.
On the other hand, BJP, Manipur Pradesh president, Sh Shantikumar Sharma said that the SPF government is no longer secular or progressive.
There is no progress under SPF government.
The state is stepping backwards.
Earlier, people thought that economic blockade on national highways was behind the scarcity of petroleum products in the state.
But now people have come to realize that it is due to the failure of the government's policies and programmes.
Chief Minister O Ibobi and CAF&PD minister Y Erabot should end the differences between them if they think of the people and with a concerted effort should solve the fuel scarcity problem.
With Sonia Gandhi not mentioning any of the hot issues ahead of the people like fuel scarcity, irregular public distribution system, 10-year of fasting struggle of Sharmila, missing of UNLF chairman, RK Meghen after his reported arrest in Dhaka, Congress has made a challenge to the people of the state, Shantikumar observed.
This might have been due to a weakness of the MPCC in briefing its supremo about the prevailing situation of the state but people should consider it as a challenge to the people.
It should be kept in mind by the people to teach a lesson to the party, he said.
