Imphal East District Police rescued man who had been abducted by suspected armed cadres of a faction of the outlawed KCP-MC.
According to police report, 69-year old Mayanglambam Ibochouba Meitei of Kiyamgei Maning Leikai had been abducted by some armed persons suspected to be cadres of a KCP-MC from Takhel area at around 7 am today.
Ibochouba is the head mason of the labourers engaged in black topping of the road in the area and they stayed together in a nearby makeshift camp.On receiving the report of the abduction, Imphal East Police Commandos and personnel of Lamlai Police Station immediately swung into action and conducted massive manhunt.
At around 10.30 am, Ibochouba was found being held captivity at Naramlok located near Nongmaipal Kuki village of Nongmaiching foothill.
The police team rescued him from there.
However, his abductors have already fled, the police report said, adding that the abduction may be related to extortion demand of the armed outfit served to the contractor under whom Ibochouba and other labourers are working.Protest staged: Decrying abduction of Ch Jilla, who is an Assistant Agriculture Officer (AAO) in the State Agriculture Department by suspected armed cadres of KCP-MC, a protest demonstration was staged at Lamlai today.
Participated by a large number of womenfolk of Lamlai-Challou area, placards inscribed with wordings like 'We want peace, not war', 'Set free AAO Ch Jilla at once', 'Allow the people to live in peace', etc were seen being used during the demonstration.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Gyaneshori, wife of the abducted officer, appealed to the abductors to release her husband even if he had committed some mistakes, on humanitarian ground.
Gyaneshori informed that her husband left home for office at around 9 am on November 15 and she came to know about his abduction by KCP-MC through newspaper report.
Clarifying that her husband had not received any monetary demand, threat or warning from any UG group in the past, Gyaneshori further informed that till date her family has not been contacted by KCP-MC in connection with the abduction of her husband.
After the news of the abduction, the Director of Agriculture Department had been met but it appears that the Department is trying to brush aside the issue as some personal matter, Gyaneshori alleged, adding that the OC of Lamlai police station had called her for discussion after learning the news of the abduction from the newspaper.
