Imphal, September 01 2009:
Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) has demanded apology from the Kuki National Army (KNA) on the Khamenlok-Nongsum incident while alleging the KNA of committing unwanted activities in the area under the tutelage of the AR posted in Sagolmang area.
Based on the findings of the spot inquiry conducted by MAFYF members, a statement issued by Yaikhomba Ningthouja of the MAFYF publicity department pointed out that the KNA has been indulging in several contemptuous acts on the people of the area since five years back.
It alleged the KNA of causing troubles in the area before the militant group entered into Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement.
The MAFYF statement observed that the people's unrest has clearly indicated the involvement of the KNA in several communal acts in the surrounding villages of the area including Leitanpokpi, Pukhao, Wakhol, Phurju, Dolaithabi, Uyumpok, and Nungsum.
Demanding apology from the KNA within five days, the MAFYF statement warned to drive back the KNA right from Sadar Hills area to its base in Burma if it fails to do so.
It also cautioned that a public agitation for the removal of the AR post at Sagolmang which according to the MAFYF is responsible for playing communal card by meshing the KNA would be launched.
The statement further held the AR post at Sagolmang responsible for causing worries to the people of Sagolmang area.
Stating that several people have been beaten up, lost their lives, and several others, who could not bear the demands of the militant group, flee the area, the statement asserted that it has been over two years when villagers of Nongsum are deprived of peaceful sleep.
Maximum restraint has been maintained keeping in mind the fraternal ties of the people.
Taking up the cudgel for the people of the area, MAFYF has served the final ultimatum to the KNA, the statement conveyed.
It demanded the KNA to admit its faults and avow to restraint from committing such crimes in future.
It firmly urged the KNA not to create communal flare-up at Yaingangpokpi, Sagolmang and Moreh again.
It asserted that the KNA is not the only one which can play proxy war.
The MAFYF statement also urged the Kuki civil society organisations' leaders to pursue the KNA instead of remaining a silent spectator.
It urged them to prevent communal flare-up in Sagolmang area.
