Imphal, September 01 2009: Amidst the unrest that prevailed amongst the public in the wake of 23 July killing, another fresh case of alleged 'fake encounter' evoked public outcry, forcing them to impose 24 hours bandh along Imphal-Mayang Imphal road in the state.

The bandh which concludes at 5 this afternoon hit the normal life in Wangoi and Mayang Imphal ACs in Imphal west district as all forms of vehicles suspends normal service besides paralyzing the markets on the route.

But police prevented them from doing so in the afternoon though the bandh was total at Irom Meijrao village,the native place of the alleged 'fake encounter' victim Yumnam Kumarjit,18 who was gunned down by a combined team of police commandoes and troops of 4/8 Gorkha Regiment in a reported encounter at Toubul Moirangkhongpat in Bishnupur district on 24 August morning.

"We'll continue to our agitation until they(security forces) stops such killings" says Ibempishak,President of newly formed Joint Action Committee against the killing which had been protesting the incident since Thursday contending that Kumarjit was shot dead after being arrested.

The committee which had been demanding punishment of the involved security personnel besides conducting a CBI probe into in the incident also submitted a Memoramdum to the chief minister O Ibobi in this regard.

The family of the slain youth who had been searching for their son's whereabouts after he went missing since 12 August,found the dead body of Kumarjit at RIMS morgue on 25 August.

Police had claimed that one AK 56 rifle and 9 live rounds were recovered from the deceased whom they claimed a militant.

But the family and locals refused to accept it."The villagers of Toubul said Kumarjit was killed in cold blood",a resident of Irom Meijrao narrated.

"It was like a dream as we found the dead body at Morgue following news reports",Y Nupamacha,father of Kumarjit told this reporter."We're praying for immediate justice and also not to happen to my other sons",a retired policeman and father of five kids added.

Meanwhile local MLA in the opposition Salam Joy of NCP who visited the victim's family today assured that necessary help would be extended from his side.

On one hand,reports of widespread sit in protest during the day and torch rallies in the night at different locations in and around Imphal under the aegis of Apunba Lup,a conglomerate of several organizations which had been spearheading public protest against 23 July alleged 'fake encounter',are pouring in,despite the imposition of 9 hour night curfew from 7 since last week.

Apunba Lup in the recent time has been demanding immediate punishment of the accused police commandoes involved in 23 July killing besides chief minister's resignation,release of arrested Apunba Lup leaders and compensation for the killing victims.They even set September 2 deadline for MLAs of congress led ruling Secular Progressive Front's coalition partner to take a firm decision to topple Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
